Now You Can See the Real Score
The University of Georgia's (UGA) old scoreboards were worn and outdated. One problem was that the old-style 8-digit boards were unreadable from directly below the scoreboard.
History
Dan Laak, diving coach at the University of Georgia, said that when the pool was first built, the swim coach decided to go with CTS equipment. When it came time to install the new boards, Laak said, "It came down to wanting to deal with just one company. I've been pleased for years with them. They've always gone out of their way to be accommodating. They're great."
Solution
UGA asked CTS to replace the scoreboard with two state-of-the-art color boards, one near the diving well and one by the competition pool. Laak stated that they are very pleased with the new boards. "Everybody likes it," he said. "When we host meets, everyone is impressed."
UGA's Gabrielsen Natatorium has three distinct areas. The 50-meter pool has two movable bulkheads, which provide multiple configurations. This facilitates short course training, long course training and competition layouts. The diving well is equipped with springboards, diving platforms, and an air sparger system to cushion a diver's entry into the water. The facility also includes a pool for recreational and instructional use.
"It's a great-looking facility, part of the overall recreation facility," said Laak. The new boards show video, timing, scores, anything UGA chooses.
"Having state-of-the-art technology … helps with student recruiting and makes hosting conference and national events more attractive," said CTS Project Manager Bruce Gregg.
Equipped with the new CTS scoreboards, UGA looks forward to hosting the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships this March.
