Reaction Times in Hy-Tek's MEET MANAGERHy-Tek was the first sports software company to provide meet management software that could receive times directly from a Colorado Time Systems timing console, and that was back in 1986 with the CTS System 3000. Since then, the CTS Timers have evolved and so has Hy-Tek's MEET MANAGER (MM). Now MM communicates with the CTS System 4000, CTS System 5, and CTS System 6 timers to bring in the final time as well as the splits for each lane. But growing in popularity is the latest feature — importing the start reaction times and the relay exchange times directly from the timer. These reaction times are measured to the nearest .01 second between the impulse of the start and the swimmer leaving the starting platform. The start reaction times are typically between +0.55 and +0.95 seconds. The relay exchange time measures the difference between the incoming swimmer's touch of the pad and the next swimmer's departure from the platform. A +0.00 means the exchange was perfect, a -0.00 means there was no exchange measured, a time of +0.00 or greater means there was a legal exchange, and a negative exchange of -0.01 or more negative means there was an early take-off. The capability to import the reaction times and relay exchanges is only available with the CTS System 6 timer. Hy-Tek continues to work with CTS to enhance the interface between Hy-Tek's MM and Colorado Time Systems products. The current project in development is a collaboration between Hy-Tek, CTS, and Digital China to convert Hy-Tek's MEET MANAGER into Chinese. Charlie Hodgson is in his 17th year with Hy-Tek and is currently the Director of Hy-Tek's Product Development, having designed and written Hy-Tek's MEET MANAGER, WORKOUT MANAGER, and SPORTS BUSINESS MANAGER. Charlie has coached swimming since 1969, was a 1984 USA Assistant Olympic Swimming Coach, and currently coaches for Nashville Aquatic Club. |
