Congratulations to the NCAA Champions

Water Celebration

Colorado Time Systems (CTS) congratulates all of the 2006 NCAA Swimming and Diving championship teams. With impressive winning streaks and repeat championships, these teams have learned what it takes to be national champions.

Division I

Auburn University

Auburn University

The men's team won for the fourth year in a row, and the women's team won for the fourth time in the last five years. "Success is an accumulation of a number of factors including vision, persistence, hard work and resources," said Head Coach, David Marsh. "This team and staff clearly had a goal of competing for the National Championship and quickly went to work daily."

Marsh notes that even through the long season of challenging training, the team rallied. "Because of their persistent attitude and working through the lows and riding the highs, success resonated by using the right equipment such as the Colorado timing gear. CTS made a significant contribution to much of our detail work — in particular for our sprinters," said Marsh.

Auburn University women's Co-head Coach, Dorsey Tierney-Walker, said that two things have been key for the Auburn women: "Coming into the season with an understanding of this year's team and moving forward to create a championship team."

What advice would she give to a new coach? "Always continue learning and be open to many ideas," she said. "Don't get wrapped up in your ego...read about the sport, get interested in different ideas and progressive training techniques, but always stay true to your own personality."

Division II

Drury University

The men's team successfully defended their Division II title for the second year in a row, while the women took second. Head Coach Brian Reynolds attributes Drury's success to the work ethic of the student athletes.

"A highly motivated, hardworking group of kids come to the pool every day and give 100 percent effort in training." Reynolds also said his team uses the QuickStart (PDF) in training.

Truman State University

The women took the Division II championship for the sixth straight year, thanks in part to NCAA Division II Coach of the Year Mark Gole.

"Being named NCAA Division II coach of the year by my peers was one of the greatest awards that I have ever received. I believe that it says the most about the team that I coach. They work so hard and listen to everything that I say. They make me look good. I feel that I am privileged to coach them," said Gole.

As a younger coach, Gole advises new coaches to be patient and not to expect results in a short period of time. "Great things take time and are worth the wait," he said. Using the CTS System 5 (PDF) has been instrumental in their success as well. "It works great for our six-lane pool," he says.

Division III

Emory University

Emory University

The women's team won Division III for the second year in a row. "I attribute our success to the type of kids Emory attracts," said Head Coach, Jon Howell. "We have a really motivated group of student athletes who work hard to achieve their success."

Howell, who's been part of the program for eight years, gives credit also to the CTS training equipment they use. "The QuickStart Relay Take Off is valuable, especially the pads (PDF) on the block because they allow our swimmers to practice with the real scenario of a meet."

Kenyon College

Kenyon College

The men's team, lead by Head Coach Jim Steen, won their 27th straight victory while the women's team took second place in the Division.
