It's Official: New Olympic Coaches Named
The United States Olympic Committee and USA Swimming jointly announced Sept. 8 two new Olympic coaches – both of whom use CTS equipment to train their athletes and for competition at their facilities.
USA Swimming's head coach and general manager Mark Schubert – along with representatives from the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) –announced the USA Swim Coaches for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China: Jack Bauerle (Athens, GA) for the Women's Team head coach and Eddie Reese (Austin, TX) for the Men's Team.
John Leonard, ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) Executive Director touts the appointees on ASCA's website as "two of America's greatest ever coaches." That is a very encouraging endorsement, especially since the 2008 Olympic Games might be the greatest challenge to USA swimming supremacy in current memory.
Both the University of Texas and the University of Georgia use CTS equipment in training and competition at their facilities. Reese in Texas and Bauerle in Georgia are adept at utilizing CTS technology at their respective pools to assist their swimmers in training for and maintaining peak performance.

Jack Bauerle
Currently head coach for the University of Georgia's men's and women's swimming and diving teams, Jack Bauerle's Olympic appointment was met with strong approval. Students and colleagues alike expressed affirmation and indicate his strong coaching skills, winning attitude and general ethics as good reasons for his appointment. Supporters mention Bauerle's sense of fun as a valuable asset as well.
This will be Bauerle's second Olympic coaching assignment. His initial Olympic experience includes being assistant coach of the 2000 Women's Team, as well as taking part in the 2004 Olympics as a personal coach where four of his swimmers won medals. With 25 years of coaching experience and an ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) Certification Level 5, he is unparalleled as a training program speaker and motivational presenter.

Eddie Reese
In addition to serving as an Olympic assistant swim coach in 1988, 1996 and 2000, Eddie Reese also enjoyed appointments as Men's Olympic Swimming Team coach in 1992 and 2004. When Schubert made the recent announcement, he was effusive in his support of Reese, and said at the Sept. 8 press conference "Eddie Reese is without a doubt the best coach in America, if not the world."
He cited Reese's successes in coaching three world record holders and three Olympic gold medalists in the same program. Reese is many times an honoree in his 28-season tenure at the University of Texas.
Not only has his team has won 27 consecutive conference titles and nine NCAA titles, he has been named Coach of the Year by both USA Swimming and World Swimming Coaches Association. |
