Like Clockwork - CTS Products Are Successful Every Time

Duane Proel

Taking on NCAA Championships is no small task. Duane Proel, Associate Director of Recreational Sports for Aquatics, Risk Management and Special Events for the University of Minnesota Department of Recreational Sports has 35 years of experience with CTS products. Proel's confidence in CTS products never sinks.

"We had a sold out crowd for the Men's & Women's NCAA Division II Championships in March. ESPN Television taped live," Proel said. "You cannot have any equipment issues or delays in that situation. Everything must run on schedule. That's one of the reasons we have CTS. It does not falter. Ever."

More than 900 miles away in Buffalo New York Sarah Takas, ECC/STAR Aquatics Coordinator, just finished up running 37 events in 60 days, including the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming and Division Championships. Such a full schedule speaks to the kind of trust CTS products have earned.

Erie Community College officials announced in early April that events held at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center have resulted in a $3.15 million in positive economic impact on Buffalo. Takas credits Colorado Time Systems in allowing her to have such an aggressive slate.

"CTS has been with us every stroke of the way over the past year as we've joined the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabers as the top 3 economic impacts on our community" said Takas. "I am able to bid on these events with confidence, knowing that the Flickinger Center is equipped with reliable equipment and that we have accessible and knowledgeable tech support."

When it comes to service, CTS holds the lead

"They don't just drop off the system — they are really good with follow-through," said Takas regarding CTS customer service. "CTS stays in communication over the years. If there is a problem, they are responsive and prompt. CTS will walk you through over the phone. They don't talk over your head."

Head Timing Operator for Burt Flickinger Athletic Center, Debbie Gustafson-Bartel knows firsthand about the CTS user-friendly equipment. "As compared with other systems I've used, CTS equipment is very straightforward, things are labeled well, and they even provide a testing block. Almost anyone can use it." Gustafson-Bartel echoes the trust Takas has in CTS products and their customer support.

Gustafson-Bartel also appreciates upgrades. "We were already thrilled with the performance of the System 5. But the System 6 is more computer-integrated and it's versatile with features such as laptops, mouse or keyboard. We like the way it can go live on the Internet immediately, and that updates are available online through a simple download."

Adept in aquatics as a business, Proel doesn't hesitate when people ask why he uses CTS products. "I tell everybody there are three main reasons. One, CTS is the most dependable, durable equipment that when maintained properly, will last forever. Two, when you have electronics around the pool things will happen. CTS products are straightforward and my staff can handle whatever comes up," Proel said. "Three, when we hire CTS technicians to be on hand for big meets, the techs CTS sends out are the best. I can guarantee my customer they will not have issues. Jay Reigel, regional tech in Michigan, CTS's Brett Anderson and Craig Jacobs — they are the absolute best."

Proel sites an impressive list of high profile meets they've hosted, including the Big 10, NCAA Championships and others for not only swimming and diving, but also synchronized swimming and water polo. In daily training regimes they rely on CTS pace clocks every hour of every day, and the 21-foot by 10-foot digital video display is still the largest permanent video installation in an aquatic facility in the United States. It is in use daily, advertising 14 corporate sponsorships.

Ultimately, Proel believes there is more to CTS than excellent products. "The bottom line is – you have to have great people behind it, people with a passion for the sport. You have to have great engineers designing great products. It wouldn't work if they didn't have the staff to make it successful."
