State Games Spell Success
Scoreboard Operator Training
The State Games of America slogan is "Come out and Play!" On August 2nd - 5th, 10,500+ athletes answered that call, and CTS was excited to play a role in the event.
The 2007 State Games of America was hosted in Colorado Springs thanks to a partnership with Colorado's Rocky Mountain State Games. The State Games, held every two years, brings medal winners from State Games nationwide to compete. All Colorado residents are also eligible to participate.
Role of the State Games
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our [Colorado] athletes to participate in a national event in their home state with athletes coming from all across the country. It is a fun atmosphere," said Doug Martin, National Director of the State Games of America.

Much of this energetic environment is due to the sheer enthusiasm of the participants, who range in age from 4 years (figure skater) to 89 years (bowler). Of the more than 10,500 athletes competing in 29 different sporting events, skill levels run from beginner to world class.
The opening ceremony, patterned after the Olympics, featured a parade of the states and their athletes, sport exhibitions and demonstrations, and live entertainment. The Athlete of the Year brought in the torch, and the ceremony culminated with the lighting of the cauldron by world renowned Olympian Michelle Kwan.

CTS and the State Games
CTS was proud to partner with Colorado's Rocky Mountain State Games to provide reliable and powerful equipment for such an exciting event. Martin says the new partnership with Colorado Time Systems is a win/win. "This is a well-run event at a national level. There was an expectancy that the event would be flashier and fancier than most. The CTS scoreboards were like icing on the cake. This is the big time!"
5K Run
CTS existing equipment at Colorado College's Schlessman Natatorium and the Olympic Training Center was used for the swimming and diving events.
In addition, CTS timing and scoring solutions were used for Basketball, Cycling, Flag Football, Soccer, and Track & Field venues on the Air Force Academy campus.
Martin said he is excited about this year's starting point as partners with CTS and is already looking forward to the 2009 games, slated once again for Colorado Springs.
