America, Brazil, ChinaGrand Prix in Minnesota The University of Minnesota is hosting the Swimming Grand Prix in November 2007 with swimmers of the caliber of Michael Phelps. The university will use their complete CTS timing system for the event. For the first time, they are utilizing the Dolphin wireless stopwatch system, which will ensure fast, accurate transfer of backup time information for the duration of the event. Duane Proell, Aquatics and Special Events Director for the University of Minnesota, says the school has had a tradition of using CTS equipment since the early 1980s. “We choose CTS timing equipment above anything else because we believe CTS has the best equipment for swimming and timing in the world,” Proell said. The Dolphin system, a wireless stopwatch timing system, is one of the latest innovations in timing systems technology available from CTS. The system provides accurate timing for 6 to 10 lanes, with up to 3 watches per lane. Its accuracy and ease of use made it a natural choice for the University of Minnesota. “The Dolphin System is a new invention that is really great for swimming,” Proell explains. “What that system does is allow our backup timers that are behind the lanes, rather than using stopwatches and writing down times, to have information transferred automatically. It saves everybody lots of time and energy, and is much more efficient.” The Swimming Grand Prix will be held at the University of Minnesota November 9-11, with prelims at 9:00 a.m., finals at 6:00 p.m. Admission will be available at the door. Swimmers that will be participating include Michael Phelps, Amanda Beard, Kate Ziegler, Ryan Lochte, Jessica Long, Melissa Stockwell, Peter Vanderkaay, and many more. The event’s organizers expect that the Dolphin system will add even more to an exciting event by making race data transfer faster and smoother. “We firmly believe that CTS has the best aquatic equipment and we think this Dolphin system is another great addition,” says Proell. “We certainly wouldn’t consider using anything else.” FINA in Brazil The finals of the 2007 FINA Swimming World Cup competition will be hosted by Brazil in November 2007 and will utilize CTS equipment. Swimmers will visit the five continents beginning with Africa, which is followed by Asia, Oceania and Europe, with the final meeting in the Americas. All meets will take place solely in 25m swimming pools (short course). A total of $360,000 in awards will be presented. A $100,000 award will be given to the overall World Cup man and woman, with awards of $50,000 for each second place man and woman and $30,000 for each third place man and woman. The event will take place in Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais in the southeast part of Brazil. The Aquatic Park Tennis Club I of Minas will host the event and has been using CTS equipment since 1991. CTS equipment used at the club includes a large display board and a complete 10-lane timing system with FINA-sized touch pads, relay judging platforms with Speedlights, a timing console, a Championship start system, and an underwater speaker, which is used to clear the pool after warm-ups. The Minas Tennis Club purchased the CTS equipment from Pro Swim of Sao Paulo, CTS’ distributor in Brazil. Championships in China The Chinese National City Games opened October 20 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, and will run through October 29. The City Games, which are held every 4 years, are the last and highest level national games before Beijing 2008. CTS timing, scoring and display solutions are being used. Coming up in mid-December are the 2007 Chinese National Winter Swim Championships at China’s National Swim Training Base, Dalian Natatorium, Liaoning Province, and CTS systems will be a part of it, providing timing, scoring and display solutions. The China Swimming Association uses CTS timing and scoring technology such as:
The China Swimming Association depends on CTS equipment to provide fast, accurate race data for all of their national meets, as well as CTS display solutions to keep the audience up-to-speed. |
