68 Million Dollar School Project Includes State-of-the-Art Natatorium
When the brand new South Lyon East High School opened its doors for the first time in August 2007, the students were welcomed to a state-of-the-art facility. Included in the new school, located in South Lyon, Michigan, is a swimming facility that serves as a marvel of design and execution to both the students and the community as a whole.
When it came to designing and equipping the natatorium at the school, the administrators turned to Colorado Time Systems, who had been a supplier for the school district for well over a decade. CTS was involved from the concept of the facility and worked with the contractor during the design and implementation. This ensured a state-of-the-art facility that is user friendly to swimmers, coaches and attendees.

The center of attention is the Colorado Display Systems 30mm 96x128 pixel (9.4' x 12.5') red LED matrix display. The display is capable of displaying alpha numeric results, as well as graphics and animations to entertain the spectators. Training for the South Lyon swim team has also been enhanced by the new equipment; the new system is used daily at practice to record and display each swimmer's times for easy reference.
Mike Teagan, the Assistant Director of Athletics at the school, is enthusiastic about the possibilities for the new display. "We liked the flexibility of the scoreboard, with its ability to display multiple sports," said Teagan, "It complements the facility—the new scoreboard provides recognition for the swimmers by displaying their entire names. This board has all the features imaginable."
Since South Lyon East only has freshmen and sophomore students this year, the swim team is comprised of students from both South Lyon East High School and South Lyon High School. The pool at South Lyon East will serve as the host for all home competitions on the schedule, and when South Lyon East has enough students to field their own swim team, the new facility will serve as the location for competitions for both schools. The middle schools in the district will also use the natatorium for their competitions, and the community at large will benefit from the new natatorium when it is used for the community swim racing program.
The South Lyon community now has a state-of-the-art educational facility for its high school students, and included in the first rate school is a first rate natatorium. CTS played a vital role in making the natatorium at South Lyon East High School an important asset to the school and the community.
