Section Selection for Better Impression
The sections you select are the foundation of your eNewsletter. While a poor foundation will lead to a breakdown of content and disorganization, a strong base can ensure the eNewsletter contains consistent, valuable content.
What is a section?
To begin, it’s important to identify what a section is. Unlike an article, a section remains constant throughout an eNewsletter’s production. For this reason, sections must be open-ended enough to accommodate various topics, but structured enough to have a meaning to readers. If the section is named “Helpful Information,” for instance, it may be easy to find content, but the section means nothing to the reader.
Creating good sections
What does it take to create flexible and powerful sections? Follow these simple guidelines:
- Create sections that will have content for future editions: Avoid being too specific. For instance, if your company doesn’t have events often, an “In The News” section would be a superior choice to “Events,” since the latter is far more limited.
- Create sections that are clear: The sections must appear to be filled with value and back up this proposition with substance. Stick to simple, clear sections, such as “Business Trends” and “Case Study.” Ambiguous, complex section names will only confuse readers.
- Create sections that are well-rounded: Sub-brand the eNewsletter by section, so readers begin to know what each section will bring in terms of value and information.
Every aspect of the eNewsletter should expand on the original goals that were laid out with the sections. When you do, you’ll have a winner.
