Competition between voice T1 services has surged throughout the telecom industry in the past few years. As a result, businesses that buy these services are reaping the benefits.

Telecom providers used to promote ISDN PRI as a premium service superior to digital trunks. While these two products are similar, each uses a different signaling protocol, and ISDN PRI offers a few additional features over digital trunks. For this reason, telecom providers were able to charge companies premium rates for PRI services.

Telecom providers are adding more standard features to their voice T1 packages in order to set themselves apart from competitors and attract more customers. This means that companies buying these services can find lower rates, additional features at no extra charge and simple, dependable services.

For example, the owner of a mid-sized accounting firm in Jacksonville, Florida decided to purchase voice T1 services that allow her employees and accountants to have private, secure telephone conversations with clients. Although she's heard about the minimal differences between PRI and digital trunk voice services, she simply wants convenient, reliable services.

As the owner contacts telecom providers to learn about their voice packages, she quickly realizes there's a lot of competition in the telecom industry for attracting voice T1 customers. As a result, she easily finds a telecom company that offers the ideal services for her mid-sized company. The voice package she purchases includes a variety of standard features at extremely reasonable rates. In addition, the flexibility of the telecom contract allows the owner to easily upgrade her phone system in the future without having to sign a new contract.

Like many commodities, the increased competition in voice T1 services has forced telecom companies to differentiate through additional services. And customers reap the rewards.
