All In OneTime Warner Telecom's Direct SIP IP Trunks, an inbound, outbound or two-way Voice over IP (VoIP) service, offers companies free calling between on-net locations, local and long-distance PSTN termination and other valuable features. Since voice traffic may be converged on one IP network, Direct SIP IP Trunks helps businesses reduce network costs, greatly increase network productivity and maximize bandwidth efficiency. Time Warner Telecom's Direct SIP service works with a customer-managed Cisco CallManager (CCM) or CallManager Express (CME) IP system. Because the service maintains all the applications and functions of the original CCM or CME system, there is no need for companies to re-train their employees on calling features after they migrate to Direct SIP IP Trunks. This eases migration and allows companies to save a significant amount of time and money. Much like traditional voice trunk services, Time Warner Telecom provides companies with the VoIP network infrastructure and call processing systems as part of the Direct SIP service. However, customers are responsible for purchasing the endpoint and application equipment and configuring, managing and maintaining their network. The Direct SIP service also features an established bundle of long-distance minutes that can be used when Time Warner Telecom is the customer's contracted long-distance provider. CustomersBoise State University recently implemented Direct SIP IP Trunks over its existing Time Warner Telecom Ethernet service. With more than 14,000 telephone numbers and 4,000 handsets on its voice network, Boise State is the largest university in the nation to switch to VoIP technology. "Migrating to Time Warner Telecom's SIP trunk connectivity represents the next evolution of our VoIP communications solution," said Brian McDevitt, manager of telephone network services for Boise State University. "We'll be able to save about half the cost of what we paid previously through significantly reduced network administration, retirement of gateway devices and essentially free long-distance calling between Time Warner Telecom nodes." Tab Roper, vice president and general manager for Time Warner Telecom in Boise, said, "We're delivering on the promise of convergence today. The advanced benefits of business-class VoIP are fueling the spread of this technology across the public and private sectors, and our SIP trunk solution is ideally suited to support this objective. It operates over our leading metro Ethernet native LAN platform and connects seamlessly with all Cisco VoIP PBX applications. Our service is scalable from two to hundreds of megabits per second, is highly reliable, and meets the need of every business to reduce costs." The Direct SIP service currently works with a Cisco infrastructure. Time Warner Telecom plans to add other leading PBX platforms, such as Avaya and Nortel.
